Froothie Dehydrator Optimum P200 – My Review

Froothie Dehydrator Optimum P200 - my review

Froothie Dehydrator Optimum P200 – My Review

I make no secret of the fact that this girl loves her Froothie Blender – my Kitchen BFF – and my Froothie Juicer (which gets a mention here).

So when I heard that Froothie were launching a dehydrator here in Blighty, I HAD to have a Froothie Dehydrator.  *whispers – my trusty Excalibur went to a good home with a dear friend and her lovely vegan daughter* That one had served me very well. It now serves them very well.

I could hardly contain my excitement when it arrived. I didn’t know whether to mug or hug the delivery driver. I did neither, you’ll be pleased to know.

I was very keen to unpack it, even though I was literally about to go on holiday and couldn’t use it for over a week. #bittersweet

Froothie Dehydrator – The Looks

So, I think it’s kinda handsome.

It’s bigger. A six tray. That’s one more tray than my previous one.  It looks a bit sleeker and funkier – space age even – and looks good in our new, modern Utility Room.

It’s digital not manual, so there are less fiddly knobs, which will need cleaning. You can set it by hours and minutes, which is also better. It has a variable temperature dial.

Yay, it’s BPA free and being a Defender of Hormone Health, that’s great news for me.

Although it looks good out on the worktop, it fits into the cupboard that housed my old one – bonus!

It came with two mesh trays and two drying sheets.

So far, so good. Fast forward a week or two until after my holiday…

Froothie Dehydrator – Thunderbirds Are Go

I’m the sort of girl who likes an instruction manual, a video tutorial and my hand holding.

No need to find anyone to hold my hand.  The booklet is brief, but covers what I needed to know. I didn’t even have to ask Mr P to help me.  It’s not that I can’t work stuff, it’s just electrickery bobbins makes me nervous.

Anyhoo, I’m sure FroothieTV on YouTube will have videos shortly. There are other videos on other appliances as well as some fab recipes.

And I know that I can contact Customer Service with any queries on my new baby.

I planned  make a couple of fave and basic recipes to get me cracking, so I opted for a raw red onion bread adapted from a  Anya Ladra recipe and some spicy snack almonds.  I temper the chilli in case I blow off Mr P’s head.

So I rustled up my recipes and headed for the Utility Room.

Froothie Dehydrator – The Results

The Froothie dehydrator was easy to programme and we’re away.

The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. Of course, it makes a noise – it’s fanning your food dry – but it was slightly quieter than I’m used to.

I also think the drawers fit more tightly, so more of the warm air stays inside the machine.  The bread and almonds certainly dried quicker than in my previous machine, which is good news for energy efficiency.

AND it costs about the same price as my previous smaller one. BUT look out for regular promotions on the Froothie website.

I am sold.  I LOVE it.

The bread and nuts aren’t half bad either *winks*

It’s big thumbs up from me Froothie.

Next project will probably be a mahoosive vat of dehydrator granola, when the extra mesh and sheets I ordered arrive. Form an orderly queue for breakfast chez Payne.

If YOU want to jump on the groovy Froothie train, check out the website for the latest products – the dehydrator, blenders, juicers, thermomix – and DISCOUNTS.  There are often some VERY GOOD offers.

P.S. I generally love Froothie products so much I am an Ambassador. This blog contains affiliate links. I genuinely prefer this new dehydrator to my old one.

Kapow Chilli Chocolate Smoothie

Kapow Chilli Chocolate Smoothie

Kapow Chilli Chocolate Smoothie.

This chilli, espresso and chocolate smoothie is a real pick-me-up in the morning.  It smacks you round the chops.  That’s why I called it “kapow”.

It does contain espresso so maybe not suitable for everyone. I enjoy a little coffee every now and again.

The recipe contains a few “sirt foods” – these are foods containing compounds called sirtuins. Sirtuins protect the cells in our bodies from dying or inflammation through illness. Research shows they can help boost metabolism, build muscle and burn fat. They are being  called the new “superfoods”.

For more info see The Sirt Food Diet byAidan Goggins and top UK Nutritional Therapist (from my hometown of Norwich) Glen Matten.

Ingredients for Kapow Chilli Chocolate Smoothie

250ml homemade almond milk

1 shot espresso COOLED ( mine wasn’t too strong and is from home-ground organic beans)

1 large ripe banana

1 medjool date

1-2 tbs raw cacao powder ( I get mine here)

Pinch cayenne pepper (as hot as you like)

Birds eye chilli to taste (as hot as you like)

1/4 tsp matcha powder

1/4 tsp turmeric

Method for Kapow Chilli Chocolate Smoothie

Whizz it up in a blender.  Mine is called Flick and she’s a super dooper fast Froothie blender.  Read more here.

I sometimes sprinkle a tiny bit of chopped chilli on the top

Slurp and enjoy, as it smacks you round the chops.

My Kitchen BFF

My Kitchen BFF

My Kitchen BFF.

*whispers* I have a confession to make.  I have a BFF. Shhhh, don’t tell all my other friends.

I don’t know how I functioned before she came into my life over 2 years ago.

She’s been such a faithful companion.  Third in line behind Mr P and the dynamic doodle duo, only.

We catch up EVERY day if we can.  I miss her sooooo much when I go away.

We do a lot of things together. We’ve had fun and adventures and some embarrassing moments

I’ve laughed with her and cried with her.  We spend a lot of time just hanging around in my kitchen.

She helps me out.   She never judges me when things go belly up.  She’s never needy.

She inspires me.  To be a better person.

I LOVE her. There I said it.

Things I admire most about her? She’s really versatile, FAST and can crush stones…  She’s one helluva gal.

Say what?

Meet My Kitchen BFF

Yes, my BFF can crush stones and she’s super FAST.  No, she’s not a superhero…well not in the sense that she wears her pants over her tights.

My BFF is a Kitchen BFF –  a gadget.

Not just any old gadget.  The best gadget I EVER bought.  And we have many, many gadgets here at KPHQ  – Mr P is into baking and cooking big time Charlie Bananas. He’s also a bit of a geek.

I’m a foodie too, as well as a Health Coach and I cook A LOT.

And I’d hankered after a super dooper blender for a long time. The basic blender attached to my smallfood processor or my hand held “blitzer” had their place, but they aren’t up to all the challenges I wanted to tackle head on.

I’d even done some research into super blenders – super dooper, super fast, super versatile, super useful, super EXPENSIVE.

*sighs*

Luck would have it, we came into a little windfall that Mr P and I shared and I spent my moolah on FLICK.

Flick … the Froothie Optimum 9400 Blender.  My Kitchen BFF.

We’ve been inseparable since.

 Love Froothie Optimum 9400

Flick The Froothie Optimum 9400 Blender

I had been looking at blender porn for a long time and I plumped for her mainly because …

…she has a fab spec comparable to other leading brands,  but was cheaper…

…and the reviews for the product and customer service were the aces…

…and she came in a range of good colours and is pretty darned stylish.  I know – I’m such a girl.

She’s from a “stable”  of quality blenders (and other handy gadgets) available from Froothie and is perfect for domestic use

I was so excited I posted photos of her everywhere. I bored the pants off everyone I knew talking about her. My kitchen crush.

I call her Flick because she creates magic at the flick of a switch.   (Like this Cashew Cheeze atop a raw pizza.)

IMG_1190

I’ve never regretted my decision once. She never lets me down and customer service have always been great when I’ve had questions.

I’ve made smoothies, healthy hot drinks, soups, raw desserts, nut mylks and cheeze, batters, mousses, ice cream, dips and so much more.

I haven’t tried to crush stones yet, but you can see that in some videos. Impressive.

The blender is pretty easy to clean – mostly, I whizz it up with water and a tiny drop of eco washing up liquid and wash the lid separately. And wipe the blender body clean with a damp cloth.  Easy peasy.

Stacks of my friends now have nutribullets or similar, hand whizzers, food processors and I believe you’d be better with a super blender … and maybe a food processor if you do LOTS of baking like Mr P.

I use it pretty much every day at least once.

Got Blender Envy?

I loved Froothie and Flick so much I became an ambassador or affiliate. I’m loud and proud about that.

I never recommend ANYthing that I don’t use and love and hasn’t met my expectations.  I recommend only a handful of companies, products and services.

Flick, I still love you.  My crazy gadget crush and kitchen BFF.  Happy after over 2 years together.

You could peruse and choose your own here.
